[resolved] navigation menu showing in error (9 posts)

    Hi All,

    Apologies - this may have been covered a couple of times but I've had a look and can't find what I'm after so thought I'd ask.

    I'm using the Pinboard theme with my own CSS sheet to get the design I want, but I'm having trouble with the php for the site, or I think it's the php anyway!

    here's the site http://www.iceniwarriors.com/sample-page/ and as you see at the top of the page it has the navagation menu and a google search box.

    How do I get rid of this please?

    i don't want that to show as I've got another menu further down that does all the navigation for me.

    Any help appreciated.

    many Thanks,

    Ken

    I don't see a Google search box, whereabouts is it?

    Sorry, my mistake.

    it's not a Google search box.. just a site search box.

    The simple way is to add the following CSS code.

    #header {
    display: none;
    }

    But if you want to remove it from the PHP itself open the header.php file and find the following line

    <?php wp_nav_menu( array( 'theme_location' => 'primary_nav' ) ); ?>

    and remove it.

    While this works if you update the theme this change is overwritten.

    So I suggest you use the CSS method or create a child theme for this theme.

    In your Child Theme edit sidebar-header.php and remove the call to search form http://snag.gy/ZArmV.jpg - But looking at the code it seems there's an option in the dashboard for you to remove the search.

    Jesin - That just removes my whole header including banner logo which I need.

    Andrew - I've had a look and that's managed to get rid of the search box, so many thanks for that. however, I'm still getting all the other text. Is there any way for me to get rid of that as well?

    Thanks again,

    Ken

    Also get rid of this code from header.php of your Child Theme: http://snag.gy/WSws5.jpg

    In that case remove the following PHP line from header.php

    <?php wp_nav_menu( array( 'theme_location' => 'primary_nav' ) ); ?>

    However remember that whatever changes you make to these files will be overwritten once you update the theme.

    Thanks Andrew and Jesin,

    It's working now so I will set this thread to resolved.

    I've just realised that I have another, rather major, issue that needs looking into, but I will create a new thread for that!

    Thanks again,

    Ken
