    I am trying to insert a wowslider (jquery slider) into the header. I want the slider to be below the navigation bar. Every time I put the slider below the navigation bar the navigation links quit working. However if I put the slider above the navigation bar it works fine. I have been googling all morning and afternoon to no avail so if anyone has time to check it out that would be great. the link to the development site is here . It is using the 2010 theme.

    The header.php code is below. I have made 3 comments in the file so you can know where to insert the slider code to get different results for the different locations (eg top of the page, above slider, and below the slider)

    header.php

    thanks for looking I really appreciate it.

    Do you know where to put custom CSS?

    #access {
     position: relative;
     z-index: 1;
    }

    #wowslider-container12 {
     z-index: 0;
    }

    Thanks for your suggestion, I have tried that already, to no avail :-(. Is there anything else it could be? Or any other suggestions to make it work?

    I put it in the style.css file. Appearance...Editor...Styles StyleSheet(style.css). Isn't that the right place to put it?

    Thanks so much for your help so far. I really appreciate it!

    You really should not be modifying any theme files at all - as they will be overwritten when WP is updated. Instead you can use a Child Theme for file modifications -

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes

    Then CSS changes would go in your new (mostly empty) style.css file in the child theme.
