Naming my page Blog with permalink issue (5 posts)

I would like to name a page on my wordpress site called blog so you could get to that page by going to http://www.mysite.com/blog/. I want that page to be very customize and the client wants that url for that particular page.

Every time I do that I get redirect to a generic page not found on my host. Every thing else works just fine on the site.

I remember at some point, many versions back, something about not being able to use blog in the url is that still true?

you cam either install a 2nd instance of wordpress in a /blog folder or use the static front page option. However, with a static front page and a blog page - the blog page is not customizable

I currently use a static page for the home page of the site like the instructions you posted above. My new posts are not shown on the home page since it is static.

I want though to create a page called blog, which I did and create a custom theme page for it so that when they go to the blog page it will show them the latest blog posts.

The issue I am having is the page is called blog, and the permalink goes to mysite.com/blog/ since that is the page but it comes up as not found.

Are you not allowed to use blog as permalink for a page?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated, the person I am doing the site for wants to use the /blog/ url so to speak.

you can't use a custom page for the blog page - and you don't assign it a permalink
the blog page is an empty page with just the title blog and all posts go to that page
the /blog is added to the url by wordpress
    from the link

Create two WordPress Pages from the "Add New Page" panel.
Title one as "Home" (or another name) as your "static" front page.
Set the "Home" template to the default template or any custom template. Title your template as something other than home.php as this could cause a conflict.
Add content you would like to see within the content area of the "Home" page.
    Publish the Page.
If you will not be using WordPress' blogging functionality, you can skip the second page; otherwise, title it "Blog" (or you could call it "News", "Articles", etc.). This page will be a place-holder for showing the Posts on your site.
Do not use a custom Page template for this page!
DO NOT add content to the Blog Page. Leave it blank. Any content here will be ignored -- only the Title is used.

    Publish the Page.

I just wanted to reply to this and I found the solution to my issue and thought others might want to know.

First make sure your host doesn't have anything on the server called "blog" or whatever you want the page you are using for listing posts to be called. In my case the host had a blog directory so that was 1 issue.

2nd, when setting what static front page to use under reading, under settings make sure to choose a blog page to use too.

Onward now on how I can modify this page.
