• I’m not a wordpress user and up until recently had never heard of it.
I’m reaching out to those who are wordpress users to hopefully shed some light on a little mystery that’s happening on our network.
Whenever I ping a PC on the LAN with the switch that also resolves the computer name (ping -a x.x.x.x) I get the usual replies but the name always resolves to WORDPRESS.COM. It doesn’t matter what I ping this way, access points, switches as well as PCs, the name is always wordpress.com.
It’s a small lan that uses our ISP’s DNS servers for resolution outside of the lan environment. We have no internal DNS server and names are resolved locally via the browser service or NetBIOS over TCP/IP. When I use ping -a to ping the local IP address of the computer I’m using it reports back with the correct PC name.
Anyone ever seen this before? We already rebooted all PCs and the master browser has changed to another PC. I realize this may be more of a question for Microsoft support but I haven’t found any support articles describing a problem like this. I was hoping that a wordpress user could shed some light on whether or not using wordpress would somehow affect the name resolution on a network. It’s weird because PCs can’t all have the same NetBIOS name yet that’s what ping is telling me. Any help would be most welcome.
