Mysterious and seemingly pointless comment spam (2 posts)

    I've been getting a rash of comment spam like that below. It contains no URLs and the email addresses look like obvious fakes to me. The IP addresses are from all over and thus seem obviously spoofed.

    So anyway, forget stopping this stuff. Can anyone explain to me why it's even being posted? I thought the point of comment spam was to build up links to someone's page so as to boost its page rankings. This would not achieve that objective, as near as I can tell.

  2. This is not mysterious, it's a proof of concept. It's an attempt to see how easy it is to exploit your blog. The real spam will come shortly.
