[resolved] MyPen 'Home' page showing twice (11 posts)

    Hi guys,

I recently changed my theme to the MyPen theme. Things are working great except in the navigation bar, the home page is showing twice ("What is SAP" is suppose to be my home page, and by default, it's added it's own "home" page). I want to remove the default "home" page.

    This is the website: http://www.sapinfoasap.com/

I've tried looking on google and following some posts but they didn't seem to help. Thanks in advance

There's menu-primary.php inside lib folder of your theme. Remove the line just before <?php wp_list_pages (line 100), i.e.:

    <li <?php if(is_home() || is_front_page()) { ?>class="current_page_item"<?php } ?>><a href="<?php echo home_url(); ?>"><?php _e('Home','themater'); ?></a></li>

thanks! it works perfectly when I delete the code.

Although I'm trying to comment it out by putting # or // in front of it. I've also tried /* .. */ but it doesn't seem to work.

Do you know what the problem could be?

You may not be aware of this, but that theme is not released under GPL - and is thus not in keeping with WP policy/philosophy - and is thus not supported here at all. I'd suggest you consider finding another theme.

And thus the modification you just made is likely to contradict its copyright meaning you may not be allowed to make it.

I see, I was not aware of that. How do we ensure that a theme is released under GPL? I just want to make sure I choose the right one so I don't have to change it again.

    Thanks,

Understandable - it's hard to know all those kinds of things when you start out :). All the themes here are fully GPL and supported here: http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/

Here's a good article on this topic: http://www.chipbennett.net/2010/12/10/only-download-wordpress-themes-from-trusted-sources/

If you are looking at commercial themes, these vendors meet the GPL requirements:

It seems that is not entirely true. According to their ToS .php files are released under GPL 2. However, CSS, Javascript, Photoshop and image files are not.

@Andrei, despite what they claim, their free themes violate GPL conventions [screenshot].

Indeed. But once it's released under GPL, there's not much they can do about it.

But enough of legalese, SAPinfoASAP went with something else, so I guess there's no need for further discussion.
