I was trying to edit the formation theme on my website and I went to remove some of the code from the theme functions part of the editor by going to appearance> editor and then selecting the section that says theme functions. But for some reason when I removed the code and hit save and tried to preview my website it gives me this 500 Internal Server Error.

I tried to hit the back button in my browser and insert the code again and then hit save but the 500 Internal error message came up. If I type in my site.com/wp-admin it won’t even take me to the wordpress login it just gives me 500 internal error. My website is http://creativeonlinegenius.com/ Any ideas on how to fix this? I am afraid I have lost all the work I have been working on.

You theme probably really needed the code you deleted. 😉

Access your server via FTP or SFTP and replace the theme file you edited with a new unedited file from a freshly downloaded version of the theme.

But how do I get the theme I downloaded if I can’t access my wordpress login? The theme that I used was the formation theme and I got it by doing a search for a new theme directly in the wordpress dashboard using the appearance> themes option. I am not sure how to gain access to said file that you are talking about.

You need to use FTP or SFTP, as mentioned above, to access your theme and replace the file.

To get a fresh copy, you’ll download the theme from wherever you downloaded it from in the first place, or http://wordpress.org/themes/ if you originally installed the theme via your Dashboard.
