I was folling the directions on this page to add the read more codes into my functions.php file.
    http://www.wprecipes.com/replacing-the-read-more-link-on-your-wordpress-blog

After I did this and updated the saved the codes, my site and dashboard basically disappeared.

    Go to http://www.jeanieleclaire.com

When I went back to the page that provided the codes, and I copied again, I realized I copied everything on that page. I thought only the codes were copied. I am terrified that I have to start over from step one to build this Web site. How come I can't even work in my dashboard to remove these codes? Any thing I try to open in the dashboard looks exactly like the live site does.

    Desperately need help!

    Thanks for any advice.

-save or rename your eexisting functions.php. Replace it with a fresh one. You may use FTP or or whatever file management application your host provides.

    - to protect your customization, you may want to work with a child theme.

Thank you for responding, t-p, but I also lost access to my dashboard. It looks the same as the site. Cannot naviagate whatsoever. I did contact my host site and it does back up once a week. Provided the back up hasn't been done since my mess up, I will get what I had before the host last backed up. I don't care if I lost recent post entries, I just do not want to have to start over rebuilding the site.

You have to use FTP client to download and edit the functions.php file and upload it via FTP again.
