I have seen that my page have been very slow lately. Today I started to search for the reason. I deactivated all plugins, tested my page on http://tools.pingdom.com/. I found out that when I activated NextGen Gallery, that plugin is making my page slow.

Does anyone have any tip on how I can speed up the site or if I can do anything to make my site faster?

what is your plugin version? Is it 2.0?
    2.0 really sucks!
It makes your site slow. Roll back to a previous version to fix the issue.

All - We are continually improving performance and resource usage by NextGEN Gallery ... in some releases there were significant improvements in others they may have been less noticeable.

One of our constant goals is to improve performance and resource management with every release and we encourage your constructive criticism in helping us with this as well.

Please feel free to submit a Bug Report (http://www.nextgen-gallery.com/report-bug/) if you find anything in particular that you see as a bottleneck and we will make every effort to address it.

    Thanks!

    - Cais.

I understand that you are continually improving performance and resource usage, but in the version 1.x it was, let's say, 100% fast. In version 2.0 it was 10% fast.

You are continually improving the speed... what is the speed of the current version (2.0.40) in terms of percentage?

I can't run 2.x on any of my sites. It slows them to a crawl on any page that uses NGG. Pages take 10-20 seconds to appear.

If you want help, I'd suggest taking Cais's advice about submitting a bug report or starting your own thread(s) per the forum guidelines -

Pre-2.x seems to be fast, 2.x and higher are unusable in certain situations. What those situations are is beyond me.

I realized the 1.9.15 version I was talking about is actually NextCellent Gallery. I don't know much about it so I'm going to go with 1.9.13 until 2.x is up to speed.

Same here. 2.0.40 site creation time is 10times higher than 2.0.33 (0,7 seconds to 7 seconds). I only usw 3 random pics as widgets if i read one article (as example).

Ever since 2.x was released this has been a MAJOR issue. It kills my site. Literally kills it so pages time out and you can't access it to the point where you can't even reach the WP admin. The problem is simple - the plugin dumps thousands of trash entries into the wp_options table in your MySQL database slowing it to a crawl or killing it completely.

My fix for this is to strip these out manually, but it's at the stage where I have to do this every day just to keep the site running. For those who want to try this, run this SQL query against your database:

    DELETE FROM wp_options WHERE option_name LIKE '_transient_%' OR option_name LIKE 'displayed_gallery_%' OR option_name LIKE 'displayed_galleries_%'OR option_name LIKE '_site_transient_%'

I'm closing this thread because it's way too confusing to have multiple people in the same thread - read the forum guidelines if you are confused about where to post to get help:

Unless you are using the same version of WordPress, same version of a plugin, on the same physical server hosted by the same hosts with the same plugins, theme & configurations as the original poster, do not post in someone else's thread. Start your own topic.
