My site disappeared after editing a theme .php file (7 posts)

    Hello,

I was stupidly editing the header.php file in "The Morning After" theme for my site. I made a backup of the original file, but as soon as I changed the current file, every part of my site is replaced by a completely blank screen (not even a 404) -- this includes the website itself as well as the wp-admin page and everything else I've tried.

For reference, the site is/was: http://robbielillquist.com/
    And the login is: http://robbielillquist.com/wp-admin/

I thought that I would be able to revert to the original file after signing in as the admin, but that page is equally blank. I then read somewhere about replacing the "http" with "ftp" and signing into the admin login that way. This time, it gave me the chance to put in a username/password, but they did not work, giving me a "530 login authentication failed" error (this was the same login I always used to edit my site, and I am sure it was correct).

Currently, I can't find any way to go back into the dashboard or any part of the site at all, and I am hoping there is an alternative to a complete clean slate. I am not sure the version of WordPress that was being used on the site, but I know it was pre-3.0.

Thank you very much in advance!
    Robbie

Access your server via FTP or SFTP, navigate to /wp-content/themes/[your-theme] and upload the backup of the file you changed.

If you do not have ftp, then use the file manager in your websites control panel, see if you can replace the file from there, or rename the themes folder.

Not sure if I should make a new topic, but I am having a new problem now. I recently switched to the Twenty-Ten theme and was having trouble changing around the home page. When I tried to go to http://robbielillquist.com it would go to a "not found" page, like there was no content there. My intended "home" page was http://robbielillquist.com/gallery/

I used WordPress's redirect URL option to change the site to http://robbielillquist.com/gallery/. Unfortunately, now I cannot login to either login location (http://robbielillquist.com/gallery/wp-login.php or http://robbielillquist.com/wp-login.php). The later link would seem to work, but after hitting the login button, seems to redirect to .../gallery/wp-login.php.

I tried using ftp:// instead of http to log into both of these, but my username and password always give a 530 authentication error, like last time.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated, and please let me know if I should make a new topic.

You'll have to access your WordPress database via phpMyAdmin (most hosting providers offer this in their control panel) and manually change the siteurl and home values back to http://robbielillquist.com

When you're done, follow this guide to set the gallery as your front page.
