If I put in http://www.whathappenin2012.com I get sent to index of/ where I have to click on 2012 which I don't remember why I put that on the end when I added this domain name to my cPanel. Therefore anyone wanting to go to my page has to put in http://www.whathappenin2012.com/2012. I've not done any of this before and now feel really stupid at 55. If someone can help I would appreciate it. Thanks.
it looks like you're installed WordPress in a subfolder.
Follow the instructions in the link below to move it out.

If you want to use wordpress from directory then follow instructions here

I'm sure either instruction will work, but I'm stumped on step 1, because I'm not sure where to go to set up a new directory, and then I don't know how to set up a new directory. Sorry I'm so stupid, about ready to throw in the towel.
Skip that as you already have wordpress installed in directory 2012

Thanks for your input, but I don't want it in directory 2012. I don't think. I want it so that when someone goes to my site they only have to put in domain.com and not domain.com/2012/ How do I do that?
so you follow the directions in the link he gave, skipping step 1 because you don't have to create a new directory, seeing as it's already there.
@helenssite working wordpress from a directory will work same as if you are working from root your domain name only difference is that you have all files and folders in directory and have a copy of index.php file in root with the folder name in line 17 and to log in admin your will have use the directory
Only other way will be to move all files and folders in root as
@fonglh suggested
