My reviews don't come up in web searches (14 posts)

I have a blog, http://www.maltfreak.com, where I review whiskies. My most recent review is for a newly released whisky that has hardly been reviewed elsewhere, so I was expecting searches for it would drive people to my site. But even my own searches for it - using the exact words in the title of my blog - get no results. And I tried this for older reviews. Same thing - no results.

Are you using an SEO plugin and Google Webmaster Tools account? Those are the best steps you can take to learn about SEO and set up your site to best advantage.

(BTW, your duplicate thread was deleted.)

I'll look into these things. Thanks. I'm using a Mac - does that matter? I've tried Google and Bing and both the Safari and Firefox browsers. If I put the name of my blog in, that comes up, but searching for reviews results in nothing - as if they were invisible to search engines.

No, computer makes no difference at all. How long ago were the reviews posted - it can take weeks for a search engine to index sites - though there are things you can do to help that happen - to understand how SERP works you really need to set up a Google Webmaster Tools account and start reading/learning...

Thanks. I'll look into a Google Webmaster Tools account right now.

No actually, that's for WordPress.COM sites - they are totally different from self-hosted .ORG sites.

An SEO plugin will help you do that.

Nonetheless, using the instructions at that link, I was able to verify my blog site.

Here are a few tips to help increase your sites popularity in search engines.
    1. Whenever you put out a new post, use Ping-o-Matic to update search engines.
    2. Use a wordpress SEO plugin (as previously suggested).
    3. Market your blog with various methods (such as putting a link to your website in your email signature, having a newsletter, spreading by word of mouth, using Google Adsense, etc.)

I downloaded the WP SEO, but it doesn't seem to include an installer. In any case, I can't figure out how to install it.

Search for WP SEO in the plugin section on your dashboard. You can one-click install from there. If you have it downloaded, go to add new plugins. Click on Upload at the top. Browse for and install the WP SEO .zip file.
