• I just made a post on my site (www.sumofx.com) and everything was working fine. Then I clicked on one of the posts to check on something and came up with a 404 error. External links work just fine, but everything else is giving me the 404 with the exception of the admin panel.
Can someone help me figure this out?

I think I figured it out. There is some issue with permalinks. I changed them back to default and everything started working again. Then I set them back to the way I had setup and it’s working. I wonder why it happened though.

When you use another than “Default” permalink structure, you need to have a file called .htaccess in your site’s root. Scroll to the bottom of the permalink page for an instruction.

I do have one. But there aren’t any instructions on my “permalink settings” page.

I am having a related problem. My pages are all intact in the control panel, but all the links that were previously set as permalinks are broken.

I can access the pages if I point to the pageID, but that’s it. The links are not corrupted with the eval or base64_decode hack, it’s more link the permalink is just not redirecting anymore.

Plus, in the new page editor, the line below the page title and above the editor box that shows the file name and lets you edit it is gone.

I also don’t have any instructions relating to the .htaccess on my permalink page.

    Any thoughts?
