• Well, as the title suggests, the site isn’t done – but since the end of this semester I will be dedicating many more hours to wrapping it up in the next week or so ….
    http://www.nicequietgtuy.com; but really only the
    comics and the
music section are presentable, albeit incomplete.

Basically, after trying EVERYTHING out there, including WP 1.2, I stumbled across WP 1.5, and was amazed at 1) the things it let me do, and 2) the things it did NOT do – and by that, I mean that as a positive thing; I liked that it didn’t do numerous things other systems did that bugged me (the #1 thing being using tables for layout and design; an internship at my university IT department brainwashed me to respect and cling desperately to Web standards …).

Anyway, I quickly saw I was going to need a CMS, or some sort of way to separate the content, without segregating the content, if that makes sense. So, the site as of now consists of 5 WP installations, all in just 2 databases. The “Web” section, “Lit” section, and “comics-news” section have yet to really be played with as far as design, but the comics and music section is nearly done, so I figured I would post it for any preliminary scathing and or suggestions, and secondly, in case anyone wanted to use the show/hide method I’ve implemented into the blog. It’s basically just java and CSS ripped off from Blogger, and fiddling with the code just a tinsy bit, but it allowed me to list the posts like I wanted to.

I’ve actually been “blogging” elsewhere, and once I have the design and categorization done I plan to just import all the entries. Like I said, it’s not complete, and lacks real content as of now, but it’s close enough I figured I would post a link for any criticisms, and add my note of complete enjoyment of WP well above and beyond the many other things I’ve tried.

  • This is kinda strange…

My IE defaults to not maximized. When I entered your site, I max’d the window so I could see everything. I looked around, but when I hit back on the browser, it resized my window too! I’ve never had that happen before.

Oh – yeah, sorry, I have the main page (and only the main page) set to go to a certain size onLoad, which I will probably be taking off shortly – I was just trying to get a feel for the dimensions (I was a tech writer, not a graphic designer, so the term “800 pixels” means little to me and still boggles my brain).

    Sorry – no longer up!

Would like to make a point that there’s nothing about WordPress that keeps a site owner from using tables to design their layout. It’s only that we do as much as we can to convince them otherwise. ;)

Not a lot for me to comment on, other than the unfixed header/banner doesn’t work with the fixed content area. But you’re working on it…
