• I had made a site, and everything worked until the menu disappered from the Apperance/Menues. I tried to make a new menu, but then the pull-down menues disappeared. Only the top-pages was left. When I removed the new headermenu, the website obtained its previous state.
But it is impossible to live with a headermenu I can’t edit. So I tried to change the theme to see if this problem was connected to the theme. But it remained in the website with another theme. So it must have a connection with the content.
I have updated to WordPress 3.5.1.
I thought I did the update after the problem occured, but not absolutely sure. I had also installed a plugin named Captcha. At the frontpage I had set one static page, opposed to the ‘last posts’.
I didn’t test between, so I’m not sure what caused this.
Can someone help me please? I’m a newbee and desperate 🙂

  • Try deactivating all your plugins and resetting the plugins folder in case any are causing that problem. If still not fixed, switch to the default theme.

    What theme are you using?

    I’m using Adventure Journal.
Now I’ve done what you told me.
I deactivated all plugins from the dashboard.
Then I also renamed plugins folder to plugins.hold
Looked at my website. The problem was still there,
and renamed the folder back again.

I’ve also switched to the default theme, but it did not help.
The Menues-section below the Apperance is greyed out. Do this seem familiar to someone?

Download a new copy of WP3.5.1 to your local computer and re-upload all files & folders – except the wp-content folder. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

But before doing this, make a full backup of your site.

Before this problem started I obviously selected
    Automatically add new top-level pages
And now, I can’t remove it.

Do anyone know where in the system the headermenu is stored?
Could it be some entry in the database?

What happened yesterday was that my husband found a solution.
I can still not totally remove the headermenu, but I can overwrite it.
When I make a new headermenu and I add all the pages, also the children to the top pages, and just indent them, everything works fine.
