I have to be honest and say that I preferred the last theme on that site ( i had just looked at the site like 6-7 days ago) -- much more than this. Sorry.

Without having seen the other theme, I guess I'm conflicted. It's a whole lot of information thrown right at you and as a first time visitor it's hard to know where to start. Maybe a two column layout would be less intimidating? Not saying that's what you should do. It's just a thought.

What's with the background? The Mobius Broadcasting thing? It doesn't seem like it's part of your site, or at least not the main part.

    Thanks for the feedback.
We had a 2 column layout about 2 months ago - but we had so much going on, that it did not suffice. I think what i will do is put a big 'who am i ' - on the top, maybe that would help.

and as for the insane background, they are all sponsored background. Since we're getting paid to put up crazy backgrounds - i say why not :)

I felt like CNBC barfed on my screen.
I have to say, It has a professional glean to it but there is just way way way too much going on.

And I don't know how to say this politely, so I'll just say it... the rainbows don't really scream finance to me. It is more of a "pride" vibe. Not that there's anything wrong with that, and if thats what you are aiming for, then bullseye.

Anyone dared to click the little icon on the bottom left? Sure it says its for stats, but I've seen The Net, I know pridemasons when I see them.

hahaha = the rainbow colors lol
the idea was not to make another boring finance website - wanted something fun as most of his readers are below 30.
but thanks for the feedback - this is why i posted the site here... lets hear more!

There's a difference between a site being boring (content) and looking professional (style). You have a lot going on there and a lot for a person's eye to try to focus on just with the content screaming for attention. Personally, I'd ditch the (snakeskin?) background. It looks kinda 90s to me. Just go for a plain background or something less obtrusive.

young or not, I think the look should match the subject matter.

the design shouldn't be about the age group, but about the relative maturity of the target audience. Reading about finance? chances are you're not actually drunk or sitting around with your friends at the time, and you'd value concentration over lots of dancing shit with pretty colours.

The site looks like it was made by Mattel for ADHD kids... I would *definitely* bring it down a couple of notches and make content king again.

Here's a nugget to think about... if all the beer sites are calmer and classier than your finance site, you're doing something wrong.

Is the skittles vibe really what you're going for?

I completely understand wanting to go for a point of difference in marketing, but there's such a thing as too much. Ultimately websites aren't just a marketing tool, they're also interface design, so they have to be usable and foster an environment in which the viewer can actually make use of the content.

you know, I have to pipe in and say that I loved the look when I saw it before -- granted it was pretty much the same, just lighter (the colors were all pretty much the same). Then again, I was looking purely at aesthetics, and not needing to bother with content. I am also a bit of a sucker for toys and other shiny objects.

I dont know how I would feel if I actually needed to find something though.

There is one thing I dont like, and thats the lack of the faux columns -- either the center content needs to be cut down, or you *gasp* need to add more shiny things to the sidebars. The lack of balance between the 3 columns is excruciatingly painful.
