I've been having a lot of problems with my site for the last few days.
I'm not 100% but I feel like it might coincide with my installing WordPress 2.6. About 50% of the time when I try to load the site it takes a long time and I finally get an error:
# Error Code 64: Host not available
# Background: The connection to the Web server was lost
I've tried repairing and optimizing my database, but I'm not really sure what else to do. Any suggestions?

It can be a number of things... either you internet connection sucks, or your host sucks.

That's what I thought at first also,
however it is the same on two different internet connections (one a cable modem and the other a T1). Also, I looked up the other websites using the same ip address with the same host and they seemed to load just fine.

What you tried logging the slow query for your database?

My site has slowed down quite a bit since the 2.6 upgrade too. I have seen other reports. I don't think it's just you.

I completely apologize for my lack of knowledge here, I spent about 2 hours trying to figure out how to do a slow query log for my database and got nowhere. I did come across this quote which makes me think that this is the right track:
"Any non-optimal SQL (Structured Query Language) commands or statements that take too long or lengthy time to execute will use up a lot of system resources, causing MySQL database to run slower, and then more and more queries backlogs queuing up, and when connection limit is reached, visitors are been denied or refused connection."
This sounds exactly like what is happening to me because the site pretty much works or it doesn't. It will either refuse connection or it will load pretty fast.
I'm hosting through godaddy and I would rather not have to change hosting unless I have to. Any more suggestions on how to get this fixed would be greatly appreciated.

It's a good chance that the problem is with your host. When I complained about this to Godaddy, they told me that this is just what you can expect with shared hosting and database sites. A switch to a new web host solved it.

I was afraid of that...
Any chance that paying the extra 3 bucks a month to get a dedicated IP address would fix the problem? Changes hosts is kind of a last resort unless someone can assure me that it is an easy thing to do.
GoDaddy hosting just kind of sucks, generally. And no, a dedicated IP won't fix it.
Try installing WP-Super-Cache. This will eliminate almost all the SQL queries that your site has to make.

It may just solve your problems.
If you plan on moving and are uncertain with your files, you can try having a place like ezsitemove.com move your site for you. There are probably other good companies out there which will do it for you, but ezsitemove.com is the only one I know of so far which I like... of course, all I know about them have come from a couple of my friends who say they are good, so its a small-group recommendation. :P

Read the "here's what I did" part of the post. It's for transferring to Media Temple, but it should work with any host
