Just installed and the site owner has made some posts:

however none of the links are working: he has managed to create a category called "problems" for instance, and put a post there, but if you click on the link you get a file not found error.
And indeed when I look at the file structure in FTP there is no such path as blog/category/problems, or even a category folder. My blog folder permissions is set to 755 which I believe is right?

well, a few things can mess up links
are the settings in the general tab correct? Like the blog/wordpress address are set properly?
After that, what is the permalink structure? in the settings->permalinks tab
try setting that back to default and test the site, if its good, set back to custom with a valid permalink structure
If its none of those, deactivate plugins and test, and finally try with the default theme

Aha! Yes, that did it. I had no idea about permalinks and had not touched that section. Maybe Roger did, but I set it to default and now its all working correctly.
