• Hello all, this is my first post so let me do a introduction. I started this website because I sensed a new movement for music in America. It’s electronic music and its seeping into the mainstream. I’m a IT major at KU and wanted to dive into web dev so I made this site. It’s called theDROP and it is dedicated to hard electronic music. The theme is from Eleegant Themes.

    There are pictures of attractive girls so it could be NSFW. Nothing XXX. Just some eye candy =)

    Current stuggles:
    1) Finding or making a bad ass music player that plays music in the widget and can pop out into a new window. Also I wish the player included playlists, filtering options like genre, date posted, and be able to play the files off my server. If anyone can give me a lead on this that’ll be great.

    2) SEO SEO SEO.

    3) Securing this blog.

    I’m looking for any criticism and help. Thank you! =)

  • Beautiful.
    VERY impressive.

    Very nice looking site. For the security aspects, this is the following plugins I use which seem to do me well;

    • Dashboard Commander (gets rid of dashboard clutter, useful if you are allowing registration onto the site
    • Login Lockdown
    • Stop Spammer Registrations Plugin (also identifies email addresses used for hacking)
    • WordPress Firewall (if you edit your theme or plugins, make sure to white list your IP address

    I like the ethos of what your trying to achieve, I would cover yourself with a privacy policy though as your site uses 5 third party trackers/bugs/beacons and also uses cookies, it also helps build trustworthiness with your site visitors.

    If left as is, sites like mywot.com would probably rate your site down into red on privacy issues, so could affect traffic.

    I would add a privacy policy which covers the use of WordPress cookies, and the 3rd party trackers, then head over to the forum on http://www.mywot.com, become a member and ask for your site to be rated and take their advice on board on getting a green (trusted) rating, will help a bit with the SEO, and it is good to advertise to your visitors that your site is trusted by WOT.

    @mentalist3d, thank you very much for the information.

    @mashimisha, thank you.

    The plugin that you have used for the Privacy Policy is dropping a link into your page to raccarinsurance.me.uk, I had this problem with another plugin and was advised by a member to report it to plugins@wordpress.org as it is in violation of the plugin rules.

    The plugin must not embed external links on the public site (like a “powered by” link) without explicitly asking the user’s permission.

    Ref: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/about/

    Other than that, I would just copy the generated text of the Privacy Policy and create your own Privacy page, then remove the plugin.

    I’ve gave you a green rating on WOT, if you did join you can rate and comment your own site as well (just make sure you let others know that you are the site owner), good luck with the site 😉
