My Editors Cannot 'Promote' Users (11 posts)

    I have tried about a dozen different solutions and several plugins, like User Role Editor, Members, etc.

    I go in and edit the Editors capabilities, I add permissions to the role of editor, etc.

    No matter what I do, the Editors cannot edit or promote users. They can only delete or create.

    Is this a glitch in the system or am I missing something here?

    Thanks, I really appreciate the help. We have teachers using this system for journalism and they are trying to promote users, coaches, etc but they don't have that option when they go to the all users page.

    Even when I added the teacher as an administrator they didn't see the 'edit' link under the users names, just remove.

    With the User Role Editor Plugin, I went into the Editor role and added those functions but it still didn't take, so that coupled with the above issue of even as an admin not being able to promote, I'm just wondering if there's a deeper issue here, for me at least.

  4. Could be limited to super admins in multisite.

    Do you see it?

    Yes, the super admins are the only ones that can see the 'edit' currently

    Can regular admins add users?

    When I switched to an admin, she still couldn't see the option. I logged in as her to confirm. So i'm guessing admins aren't even able to do it?

    That seems like a pretty big function to wordpress to leave out of Multi-Site if that's the case, wierd.

  8. Regular admins should be able to add users, yes. Even new ones.

    So I wonder if it's a WordPress Network issue or my own Network setup issue?

  10. *ponder* Did you turn on 'Site admins can add new users'?

    it's under wp admin -> network -> settings

    "Allow site administrators to add new users to their site via the "Users → Add New" page."

    Yup, it's checked and they can add users and even delete them without any problems.

    They just can't edit and since they can't edit, they can't promote an author to an editor, a subscriber to an author, etc.
