My codes keep disappearing (70 posts)

I am in the process of creating a new post and I am embedding videos and other links into the post. For some reason, all of a sudden, every time I add the codes they disappear right after I add them. If I add them and then save the post, the codes are gone. Can someone please help me. I am trying to get my post out soon.

Are you using the HTML or Visual Editor tab?

I put the codes in the HTML tab, but if I hit "save draft" right after I've put the codes in, they disappear. Or even if I switch to the visual editor tab right after, they still disappear.

Don't switch back & forth between tabs. If you've used the HTML tab, you cannot revert to using the Visual Editor for that page or post - otherwise, you will lose most (if not all) of your markup.

Ok so I just put all the codes back into the HTML tab and clicked save draft. When I did that, it automatically switched to the visual editor tab by itself. Then I noticed that the videos were showing up in the visual editor tab, but when I hit preview post, nothing showed up. Can you help me with that? What did I do wrong?

By the sounds of it, there's something funky going in with your site. Have you tried:

    - deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    - switching to the Twenty Ten theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

    - resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

I just tried your first suggestion. If I am understanding you correctly, you wanted me to deactivate all of the plugins, then try to put in the codes to my post and see if it would work with ALL plugins deactivated. I tried that, but when I tried to preview it, a white error page came up. I don't know if that's because all the plugins were deactivated or not. But I did notice that it still automatically switched back to the visual editor tab by itself when I hit save draft.

Did I do it right? What does this mean?

Please help. Is there any way that someone could do some trouble shooting for me. I am really a novice to the techy side of things. I need to get my post out soon.

Did you try any other the steps I suggested?

I am trying but I am so scared that I am going to screw up my website because I don't know what I'm doing and I'm slightly confused by the instructions.

I did switch to the Twenty Ten theme and tried putting the codes into my post but the same thing happened as before.

Now I am trying your 3rd suggestion and I am really struggling. I have gone into Filezilla and renamed the plugins folder to plugins.hold. Then it says create a new folder called plugins. I don't see a way to create a new folder within Filezilla so am I supposed to just create a new folder on my desktop and then upload it in Filezilla?

Ok, I completed all of your suggestions and my codes are still disappearing. Do you have any more suggestions? Or is there a way I can get some technical support from one of you? I really need this to work in my posts. I post videos and embed links often.

Yes, I know. I changed it back when it didn't work.

Did you try resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin? Preferably using the latter method.

I followed the instructions per the link you gave to reset the plugins folder by FTP. I used my Filezilla. That was the more familiar option to me.

Can you insert any links into your posts?
Can you provide a simple of this video code that you're trying to use (please use the pastebin if it's more than a few lines long)?

Yes, I can insert links. It only effects codes that I am trying to embed. I have been using youtube video codes like this:
    <iframe title="YouTube video player" class="youtube-player" type="text/html" width="425" height="349" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/xsfKpnHEk1A" frameborder="0" allowFullScreen></iframe>

Have you tried just embedding the bare video url?

What do you mean? This is the code they give when you click "embed" on the video.

Ok, that worked for the youtube videos, thank you! But it did not work for a code like this: <iframe src="http://rcm.amazon.com/e/cm?lt1=_blank&bc1=000000&IS2=1&bg1=FFFFFF&fc1=000000&lc1=0000FF&t=finhopwit-20&o=1&p=8&l=as1&m=amazon&f=ifr&md=10FE9736YVPPT7A0FBG2&asins=B000W15BI8" style="width:120px;height:240px;" scrolling="no" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" frameborder="0"></iframe>

I've been having the same problem with my blog. The only plug-in I'm using is Hello Dolly.

The disappearing code is a youtube embed link. When I switch from HTML view to Visual, and then back to HTML, the embeded is gone.

Hi Je777, I found a trick for the youtube videos. While on youtube, when you click on the embed button, 4 options with check boxes come up under the embed code. If you click on the last one that says, "Use old embed code", that should fix the problem of the code disappearing from your post. It has worked for me, and you can still adjust the size of the video to fit your post needs, unlike embedding the bare url, as suggested above.

But for any administrators, I do still have a problem with other codes disappearing. I embed codes from amazon.com a lot when I am referring to a certain product. Those codes keep disappearing. I have not been able to find a way to make them stay, so any help on that would be appreciated.

Thanks for the tip, Alexis. I tried it and it worked. I think the culprit is the iframe tag. there's something about it that WordPress doesn't like. Maybe they'll fix it in an update.

    Thanks again.

    No problem.

I'm having the same issue - I use audio acrobat to host my audio and they use iframes for accessing their site. WordPress simply doesn't like iframes (this according to audioacrobat's website) and will simply erase the code. Very annoying.

I do find that if I enter the code as the very last thing I do, save it and close the page or post - the iframe code is still there and works. But if I have to reopen the post - for ANY reason, even just to add a comma or correct spelling. The next save deletes the code. I've been going to older saves and copying the code from there - but this is a real pain in the butt.

Is there a plugin or workaround? I can create a download link for the mp3, no problem. But I want to give people a way to just play the audio recording while in the post.

Looking for a good workaround for this. And ideally not one where I upload the mp3 to the site and use a player plugin - but if that's the only fix, I can do that.

Yes, I'm having the same problem. I'm looking for a solution. I'll return to this thread if I find one.

Don't use the Visual editor if you want to put HTML code in there. The Visual editor (TinyMCE) rewrites HTML code.

The HTML editor is there for a reason; if you want to use raw HTML, use that editor instead.
