i just woke up this morning and discovered that my categories and tags are all gone. i did not do anything to the blog. please do somebody have a solution to this problem? because i have searched all around and couldn't find a answer or a solution. to better clear the issue, this is my blog http://onenaijablog.com
P.S. and urgent reply would be appreciated...
Have you tried:
- deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).
- switching to the Twenty Twelve theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.
- resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
- re-uploading all files & folders - except the wp-content folder - from a fresh download of your current version of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.
- checking your database to see if the data is still intact?

the second to the last step is to do a system backup right?

Not sure what you mean by a system backup but what I meant was that you upload a completely fresh copy of all WordPress core files just in case one or more files has been corrupted.

This just happened to me out of nowhere. I think it might have something to do with my host upgrading PHP versions or something. I just upgraded WordPress to the latest version and my categories are back.
