• All of a sudden my blog broke last weekend. I can’t figure out what I should do now. Can you advise me or help me get back online.
    The address is: http://www.lightcurve.com
I have no access to my dash board so it’s been impossible to make any changes.
    Thank you so much!

    Mike

  • Ummm. Did this just suddenly happen or did you add a plugin?

I see from your source code, that you’re running WP version 2.2.3
That version is super old. I would recommend that you upgrade right away.

You might need to switch to another theme as well. I see that your theme is compatible only to 2.7

I’d consider deactivating your plugins first, and see if that clears up the issue.

Use FTP to access the folders for your WordPress site. Navigate to public_html/wp-content/plugins and rename the plugin folder to something else, like “old-plugins” and then save that change. This will deactivate all plugins for the site.

If you are able to regain access to the dashboard, then rename the folder back to “plugins” and instead rename each folder found within the plugins directory. Eventually you can narrow it down to the one that is causing the issue. I’d delete it, and look for another plugin that offers similar functionality.

I deactivated the plugins folder and I’m still getting error codes and am unable to logon to the dashboard. The blog seems to be active in every way except I have no access any longer and can’t update or change it. As soon as I gain access to the dashboard I will be able upgrade to the latest version of WordPress and a theme which is compatible. Last night I backup the database and downloaded all my WordPress files to my hard drive but I’m pretty much a neophyte at this even though the blog worked for the last 5 years. I hope I can make it work again. Everyone, thank you so much for your help with this.

Try deactivating the theme as well via FTP. Just delete it or rename the folder to –foldername.

    That should deactivate the theme.

If that doesn’t work. I would consider just downloading the latest version of WP and upload all of the files except the wp-content folder. Once you’ve uploaded these new files, you should be able to go to http://www.lightcurve.com/wp-admin and a request to upgrade should show up.

    Good luck.

    Thanks Christine,
i did deactivate the theme and still no joy. my next step will be what you mentioned…updating all files except the wp-content folder.

Unfortunately, I’ve lost all connection with my blog after trying all the suggestions. Not sure where I’ll go from here.

I can see the mysql message here – http://www.lightcurve.com/wp-admin/upgrade.php?_wp_http_referer=%2Fwp-admin%2F

I would contact your host and see if they can move you to another server. This does happen from time to time, but most hosting provider can easily fix this.

So sorry that you are experiencing this.

OK, I’ve re-established a connection but not with the dashboard

When I visit the login page, I see a WordPress warning about the Mysql version. You’ll need to contact your host.
They should be able to help.
