multisites vs. symlinked code files (5 posts)

I've just set up a test multisite install, and I'm wondering what the advantage of multisites is relative to an installation on multiple vhosts with symlinks to common code files. The advantage of the latter is that there's a separate database for each vhost (to be honest, I can't really make friends with the fact that all the vhosts are in a common database in multisites.)

Thanks in advance for any comments or corrections to any misconceptions about how multisites works.

  2. Not all plugins will work with the symlinks (especially cross vhosts). But if it works for you, cool :)

Thanks. Do you know which plugins won't work with symlinks, perchance?

  4. There are 17,371 plugins. I couldn't begin to guess how many :)

And four thousand holes in Blackburn Lancashire...

Can you describe what is generically the issue with symlinks that creates problems?

    Thanks,
    P.
