Multisite using 2 domain names? (3 posts)

    Hi there,

I'm working on a site with 2 languages, one is English and the other is French. Ideally, we'd like 1 login for both sites.

    http://www.mygreatdomain.us/articles/
    http://www.myamazingdomain.fr/articles/

Is this possible creating a network?

The domain mapping plugin allows you to map different domain names to sites within your Multisite network in this way. Don't know if you'd be able to have two sites, both with the name "articles", though; suspect each site would still need to have a unique name. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-mu-domain-mapping/

gotmedia, you sure can. Let's assume mygreatdomain.us will be your primary site. Here are a few tips:

    • Set up WordPress as mygreatdomain.us
    • Enable Multisite and set it up for sub-domains
    • Create a new site and name it something like france. The subdomain will look like this: france.mygreatdomain.us
    • Install the plugin dgilmour linked to above and map france.mygreatdomain.us to myamazingdomain.fr

Now you have your two sites: mygreatdomain.us and myamazingdomain.fr. They can both have /articles/. They can be in the same or different languages. They can use the same or different themes. It's all up to you.

The single login aspect will be handled through the mu-domain-mapping set up. It has a comprehensive readme file and instructions, along with links to good tutorials.

    Bonne chance!
