Multisite -> single blog conversion and back (7 posts)

I'd like to be able to use a multi-site installation as a way of staging various projects on one host and then moving them to individual single-blog installations.

Conversely, I need to be able to take a single-blog database and plop it into a multi-site installation. (There's actually a concrete reason for this -- a tricky conversion from Nucleus.)

Has anyone figured out how to do these things, or do they require some serious DBA chops?

  2. You can just export and import the single site into multiple. And vice versa when you're done with the temp site on multi. It should be fine, but I've never personally tried it.

  3. Yep, use WordPress' Export function. You'll get the content.

If you need things like widgets & theme options, then you need to snag the wp_X_options table. Save that, then rename the table to wp_options and pop it in your single install.

(also move over any copies of the theme & plugins)

Do you know if it's possible to move an individual blog from an old WPMU database to a new installation of WordPress (multisite)?
I'm having problems recreating the old site in order to use the export function.
Any tips for moving a site from database to database? Apart from avoid :)

Well I seem to have it working. I exported the blog tables, did a replace text on the url of the site, in the sql file, imported it into the new site, added the user and the usermeta values...

I imported into a test site, so now I'll use the export / import functionality.
