Just making the move from Joomla to WordPress and I've set up a Multisite installation which, after some trials and tribulations, is now almost working!
Initially, it was set up to use subdomains but, when we couldn't get that to work, my hosting company decided that we'd have to go to sub-folders. I changed the wp-config and htaccess files as per instructions here and it now almost works. I can get to the admin pages at http://mydomain.com/subsite/wp-admin/ but when I try to view the site at http://mydomain.com/subsite/ I get a 403 error saying I don't have permission to view that folder - although the hosting guys tell me that I have...
Help!

Two thirds of the way there may be a better description! I've just discovered that the individual posts are viewable at http://mydomain.com/susbsite/2011/04/20/hello-world/
Do you have an actual physical folder on the server with the same name? If so, nuke it. you do not need a real folder there. they are virtual.

Fantastic! I'm sure WP created them, but nuking them has done the trick!
WP does not create actual folders on the server.

Odd. But good to know. Thanks.
Either they were leftover from something else or the host maybe created them? Anyway, you're sorted. I'd want to create another test site just to double check.

Good suggestion - and it worked exactly as expected.
