Multisite-Forum Integration (8 posts)

Greetings. My network is planning to use WP multisite to manage our various portals. We need a forum software that will work with multisite. My questions are as follows:

    1) I've heard that bbPress and Mingle Forums will perform this function. Will these pieces of software support tens of thousands of users and millions of posts?

    2) Are there any other forums that integrate well with WP multisite? I'm particularly comfortable with vBulletin, MyBB, and IPB, but am open minded.

Yes. bbPress is most compatible, seeing as it's run by the folks who do WP ;)

The others you mention ( vBulletin, MyBB, and IPB) have no easy integration that I know of.

As for users, it all depends on how good your servers are.

Thank you for your insight. Any thoughts on Mingle? I just really dislike the appearance of bbPress.

Our servers have no problem handling our users with our current forum software (vBulletin 3.7). However, we found that MyBB's caching was not efficient enough to meet our needs. Servers won't be an issue, as long as bbPress or Mingle are robust enough.

I've used bbPress, though not since it became a plugin. That said, I chatted with JJJ, the lead dev. It's as robust as WordPress posts :)

What part do you need working with multisite? Anything that works with WordpRess at this point should work with multisite enabled.

In addition to bbpress (check the plugin trunk version) there's also SimplePress and Vanilla.

I tried mingle with multisite on and it broke wordpress. Even w/default theme it wont let me into dasboard for some reason. That was aout 3-4 months ago.
I like mingles forum and social stuff too. It only adds what I need for a "lite" vers of Buddypress. Forums look better. I may try again perhaps the bugs got worked out.

I'm trying to find a forum that could integrate well with multisite so that each subsite has it's own set of forums+moderator+users.

Would SimplePress do this? I installed it on multisite but struggled to configure it to do the above.

as mentioned earlier by others, I concur that bbPress seems to be the best option (from dev/ integration/ technical perspective), however, aesthetically and functionally it is much weaker product and, if possible, I would still go for SimplePress.

  8. bbPress the plugin works aces :) I'm using it now (9 months, loooong time ago).
