Multisite discussion settings (10 posts)

I have a multisite with only a superadmin. All subsites have the setting "email me whenever anyone posts a comment", but these emails aren't sent. Can this be because I have no user per subsite? My WP can send emails just fine. When I make a new site I get plenty of emails.

There are other of these little things in my multi. Just a simple example, no matter how I leave one of the dashboards, when I come back they are always with certain options dropped down and others not ("pages" "plugins" "users" "tools" and "settings" are folded out, the rest not), always and also in every subsite. I never use the "settings" or "users" option so I unfold it, but it is almost as if the settings are reverted to how I had them the first time I logged out of a multisite or something.

  2. Is your superadmin set as the admin to the subsites?

Good question which prompts me to give a little more info.
I used to have 5 separate installations. When 3.0 came I created a network with five new subsites with imported content of the old separate installs. This worked fine safe a few points, for example, the users didn't 'come through' too well. The superadmin is the author of the posts only that have been made after 3.0. The other posts belong to one or more authors with the same information (username and email) but are somehow different users.

When I look at one of the subsites from the superadmin option, the user looks like this:
    User Role Password Remove
    ***** N/A N/A N/A

No role. I can try changing these settings or add a new user as "administrator", but that doesn't work. Sometimes I get a 404, sometimes WP just says "saved" and nothing happens.

  4. Yeah, importing separate user databases is complicated. Most likely the user DB tables have gotten wonky. I've seen something like this before. I'll see if I can find it... I remember it's a weird table issue.

It's from WP to WP, weird that it should go wrong, not?
I'll have a peek in my user tables.

The users table has but one user. I didn't see any other table with users.

  7. Importing WP doesn't import the users.

Upgrading keeps them, but right now, there's no method I know of to move users from separate WP installs into one MultiSite install :/

If you have no other users, then there's nothing to change the users to, if that makes sense. You can't remove yourself because you're the admin (protect yourself from a bone-head maneuver ;) I've done it before!). That would also be why your post authorship is screwy :/

I've been fighting with that user thing before, but do you think that could be why comment emails are not always sent? That a comment to a post written by a ghost author or no author at all simply aren't sent, not even to the administrator?

  9. I think so, yes :/ It's basically out of sync data.

Hm, I've tried to find a way to bulk-assign posts to a user, but haven't found a way yet.
