    Hi.

Is this plugin really multisite compatible? I’m using it in one of my multisite environment, so far it seems working correctly. But there is something I don’t understand. Please enlighten me.

I installed this All In One WP Security & Firewall plugin and network activated it. On one of the site’s firewall, I turned on the “Enable Basic Firewall Protection”. But on other site I saw it is turned off. I read the information message, it said:

The firewall functionality is achieved via the insertion of special code into your currently active .htaccess file.

Correct me if I’m wrong. In a multisite environment, all the sites use only 1 single .htaccess file, don’t they?

If I change any setting that saved in .htaccess file, the setting should affect on all of the sites, shouldn’t they? The setting should be synchronized across all the sites, I think.

  • Yes, WP multi-site uses one .htaccess files so this situation is a little tricky to handle. When you activate the firewall rules in your main site the sub-sites do not have to do anything for the firewall, it will be active for those sites too. So it will work fine on WPMS install but I can see how it is a little confusing when you go to the firewall menu on the sub-sites.

We are going to make it so in the sub-sites of a WP Multi-site install, it doesn’t even show the firewall menu or something similar (as it is already configured in the main site).

So for you, simply activate the firewall rules in your main site and don’t touch the ones in your sub-sites of the WPMS install.

I saw this issue has been fixed on version 2.2. But some new multisite issues arise because of the fix, please see:

I’ve started a new topic, so I’m marking this one as resolved.

Handoko? Next time could you please keep to the original topic instead of creating a duplicate topic? Those normally get deleted with a note but as that new post had a lot of work in it. But it’s really still about this topic.
