• Hi,

I work for a university, and have been asked to teach a basic class in blogging.
My plan was to install WordPress on one of our machines, and have the students create their blogs on our own server, rather than have WordPress host them.

What I’d like to know is, is it possible to host several blogs, belonging to different users, on the same machine?

    Cheers,

  • That can be done. One simple method is create a folder for each student that contains a copy of WordPress, then in wp-config.php, just change the $table_prefix value to something different (say the students name or initials) for each student. Then navigate to yourdomain/whatever/student_xyz/wp-admin/install.php and let it install. Note that “yourdomain/whatever” is for example so use your local install URL as appropriate.

    Installing Multiple Blogs.

Also WordPress MU could be used for this…

In my opinion this is the perfect opportunity to use WordPress MU, and maybe even check out BuddyPress.
