Multiple pages with the same name - easiest way to identify these when linking? (4 posts)

    Hi

I have the following site structure:

    Home
    About
    Boats
    • Boat 1
    - Introduction
    - Images
    - Plans
    • Boat 2
    - Introduction
    - Images
    - Plans
    • Boat 3
    - Introduction
    - Images
    - Plans
    • Boat 4
    - Introduction
    - Images
    - Plans

    etc

When viewing all my pages in my list - the child pages are easily identifiable as they are shown under each 'category' page. However when I want to create a link to a page from within a page, only the titles show up - which means that there are multiple entries for the name 'introduction', 'images' etc etc. This makes it a little difficult when trying to work out which is the correct page to link to.

The titles of the page need to remain as is so the secondary navigation looks consistent - so can anyone suggest what - if anything - that can be done to help order the link list more effectively?

    Thanks

Are you using a custom menu or is it automatically generated? If you're using a custom menu, you could change the page titles and then edit the name shown in the menu so that the menu still appears consistent. Would obviously be more maintenance than a custom menu, though.

It's auto automatically generated with wp_page_menu.

To be honest, I'm hoping the client won't have a need to update this area of the site as the site map is agreed and we said he's only need access to the 'news/posts' section.

However he's been changing his mind a lot lately and I don't want to get caught making all the updates for him...

If the navigation isn't going to change, I'd still recommend using a custom menu. It's the only way I know of off the top of my head to have different menu titles for pages than the actual page title.

You could also try something like this plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/page-menu-editor/ - I haven't used it so I can't vouch for it, but it seems like it might do what you need.
