I run a website for a non-profit NGO. We have four newsletters that we send to people who request them. Three of them are for members of our network and pull content from various categories. One is issued on a daily basis, one on a weekly, and one on a monthly basis. The fourth newsletter pulls on a monthly basis from a smaller list of categories.
Anyway, I was up against a deadline to launch these newsletters and I have searched these forums and scoured the Internet but could not find any solution for sending out newsletters in this way, which surprised me. The developer I hired to do the job told me that the WordPress CMS doesn't do more than one newsletter and that there are no plugins to do what I want, eg several newsletters, each to a different list of subscribers, from a single site.
Like I said, I was up against a deadline and had to accept it when he recommended I use something called "MailChimp" to generate the newsletters. We've had it up for a couple of days and already I can see that this aptly-named MailChimp is unreliable and buggy, and not a long-term solution.
I can live with it for now, but now that the deadline frenzy is over, I will ask for some help in this forum. Are there any plugins that will allow me to do what I need to do, as described above? if not, why not? ;-)
