Multiple errors asking if the site is writable, can't upload or update anything. (10 posts)

I keep getting error messages on everything I try and do. Maybe it's just the plugins, but when I tried to update a plugin I got this error message: Destination directory for file streaming does not exist or is not writable..
When I tried adding a picture to the slider I got a similar error message: Unable to create directory uploads/2012/10. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

Tried adding that directory and while you can add pics on the back end you can't through the dashboard.

How do you make a site writable? I had it transferred from a developer who had it on his own hosting site and with a different url. All of them have been changes and as far as I know everything was uploaded to the new host, but could these errors mean he missed something?

Thank you so much for your help... I am so frustrated. I have just had one problem after the next with this site!

Oh and I went to my plugins and found this error: The plugin backupbuddy/backupbuddy.php has been deactivated due to an error: Plugin file does not exist.

Could that maybe have something to do with it?

You need to make the folder, and all its subfolders, writeable by the web server, which is probably running under a different user from you.

    Ask your hosts for assistance.

  6. GoDaddy can sometimes be problematic with file/folder permissions. Set your permissions with FTP: see Filezilla and FTP Clients « WordPress Codex. See Changing File Permissions « WordPress Codex on what to set the permissions to, namely 755 for folders.

I do have GoDaddy and they started by adding all folders. When that didn't work they reset all permissions and then added them in manually. This still did not work. On there end, everything with the hosting site seems to work, you can add content and pictures through the back end, just not through wordpress.

I am in tears, they said there is nothing more they can do so I am completely lost. On top of not being able to add pictures, I can not add content either. When I add text and try to save it, you can see it in the admin panel, but it does not show up on the site. Even when I hit update the published date stays the same instead of changing to the current time. Nothing in this template seems to work, there is a disconnect somewhere and I have no idea what to do.

    Please please please help.

Could be a problem theme; Theme Forest theme tend to be flakey, and your theme loads a huge number of scripts and style sheets.

Switch to the default twentyeleven theme and see if posting works. If you can, it's mostly or totally a theme problem.

Doesn't really mean anything. If the theme switch doesn't help, it's the host, and I'd switch to Bluehost; they're much better than GoDaddy and they have very few problems. GoDaddy tends to be a crappy host; there are many complaints in these forums about them.

Well I switched to back to the default theme and it still wouldn't post. Haven't tried another host yet, I know the developer was using a different host, so I might just stick with what he was using if he ever responds.

For what it's worth, I'm having similar problems and GoDaddy has been no help. I can publish posts/pages, but can't upload images or upgrade/install plugins. I've had limited success uploading images on the backend. Last week my FTP was messed up and on Saturday my site was down, and on Saturday my WP problems began, so I have to believe all these issues are related. Sorry I don't have an answer for you, but I do feel your pain!
