Support » Networking WordPress » Multiple domain and/or subdomain to just one of my network sites.

  • I currently have WordPress with multisite setup and working as intended including the use of the domain mapping plugin (mu-domain mapping). I chose to setup my network and multiple sites with subdomains.

    As a representation of what I currently have:

    automobiles.com – main site (network site)
    cars.automobiles.com – site one
    trucks.automobiles.com – site two

    I have successfully mapped
    mycardomain.com -> cars.automobiles.com
    and
    mytruckdomain.com -> trucks.automobiles.com

    Now the problem….
    I would like to have sport.mycardomain.com also point to cars.automobiles.com, respectively the same as mycardomain.com

    I have mapped sport.mycardomain.com via the mapping plugin, added an entry into my Apache virtualhost as an alias, created a CNAME entry for sport.mycardomain.com and it works in the sense that it forwards me to mycardomain.com, but I would like the ability to retain as part of the url sport.mycardomain.com rather than it forwarding me to mycardomain.com.

    I did notice that when I flagged sport.mycardomain.com as primary domain in the mapping plugin, then it worked and retained the url as I wanted, but it then forces mycardomain.com to sport.mycardomain.com, but I need them both to work.

    I hope I have explained the situation clearly enough. Thank you for any help.
