    Hi,

I'm putting together a site that requires a journal (blog) and a portfolio of work. I want to use wordpress to handle both sections of the site. However the pieces of content need to be separate from each other.

Is installing two separate wordpress's the best way to go about this?

I would love to have one admin where the user just checks either blog, or folio when making a post... is this too hard to create? Has anyone done it?

    Cheers.

PS: I searched for this on these forums a fair bit, but never really found anything usefull. This -> http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_Multiple_Blogs leads me to believe two separatly managed installs is the best option.

"However the pieces of content need to be separate from each other."

    Wonder what separate means?

You could put your portfolio posts (if they are posts) in a separate Category and exclude those items from your main page while showing them in a separate page.

    See:
    The_Loop#Exclude_Posts_From_Some_Category
    Category_Templates

I can't really filter on just "folio" as a category. The folio itself will have subcategories. And so will the journal.

WP is fine for this, use the Posts for the Blog and setup pages for the 'folio.

You are able to use sub-pages and everything you need.

Ive built many sites with WP the biggest being http://www.eurocss.net and every single bit of the site is run through wordpress and plugins (some custom made, some downloaded).

WP would be ideal for what your wanting to do!
