Multi-blog with subdomains

Hey everyone,

Been using wordpress for about a year now and I really like it. I’m planning on expanding my site into different fields. Currently my site is philmadelphia.com which I would like it to stay. However, I’d like to have several different blogs with several different writers per blog. Also each blog would have a subdomain…

ie.
music.philmadelphia.com

art.philmadelphia.com

issues.philmadelphia.com

etc.

I’d like to maintain each blog under one panel but limit the writers from each subdomain blog to their own section. Basically like a magazine with featured articles on the main site but also a more focused niche blog for each section…

I just started looking for some solutions and found wordpress MU and lyceum… anyone have any suggestions…?
