• I’m looking for some guidance to set up a multisite network with different sub domains.

I would like to have fixed structure in terms of headers, footers and menu navigation for each subsite

The menus’ of each site must have the same structure and content

The header setup must be equal in terms of structure (size, position, etc) but unique content per sub site – I would like to use a slideshow with unique pictures for each sub site

The footer setup must be the same for all sub sites.

The body content will be unique for each site

Looking forward to get some directions in how to establish this with the Multisite environment

All of this can be done in a theme.

First I’d hardcode the footer to what you want.

Then the header you could do what TwentyEleven does, steal that basic header concept and let the users pick their own pictures, but the basic design would be the same.

The menus you’d again hard code into the header.

    Done 🙂

What do you mean with hardcoded … you need to change the PHP scripts for that?

Yes. If you hard code it into your theme, it’ll be faster and impossible for the other sites to change 🙂
