• Hi There

I have an MS Access database which I use to control my stock (in a small art gallery). It has a few columns artwork title, sku#, an image file (artwork sample), artist name etc…

Is there anyway to link this database to a wordpress site so that the pictures will appear with artist name, sku# etc in seperate posts… And website viewers can use a search function to search by artist name, or other categories.

I want it to stay in MS Access because I also sell instore and want to be able to simply amend the access database and re-upload to the website to update the stock online.

If anyone has any better alternatives to this access system then I am open to them!

    Thanks in advance!

  • WP can’t use data stored in MS Access. You’d need to export the data in Access into a .csv file and then import that, via a plugin or custom set of functions, into your WP database.

    Ok, thanks.

Would you (or anyone else know) of a way to control stock through wordpress?

I looked at ecart but I don’t want to sell online, just display artwork and easily control stock that is displayed. Is ecart customizable to do this??

    Thanks again…

Sorry – I’ve never use ecart. Only eShop. And I’m not sure that this is suitable for your needs.

    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/zingiri-web-shop/

Offers an option to completely disable the ordering module allowing to use the plugin as a product browsing catalogue.

Thanks so much esmi…I will check Zingiri out…Have you used it before? You would recommend it?

And I actually meant eshop, not ecart….sorry. Do you know if that is easily customised to suit my situation?

    Thanks again!!

Never used it, so can’t honestly say how good/bad it is.

eShop is meant for online selling of one sort or another – even if it’s by cash/COD. It can’t be easily customised to create a product catalogue/inventory.

    Hi Esmi

    Thanks for your response…

I did post a similar question on the eshop forum http://www.quirm.net/punbb/viewtopic.php?id=1122

It seems you are heavily involved with that too 🙂

Anyway, do you do paid work? Any idea what it would cost to get eshop customized to do what I want?

    Thanks again…

I co-run quirm.net. My other half is the developer of eShop so we run the forum between us. 🙂

To be honest I think that customising an ecommerce plugin (either eShop or another plugin) wouldn’t be the best use of either your time or money. I think you need something quite different and possibly a lot simpler but I’d need to know a lot more about what you want from your WP site first.

If you want to take the discussion off this forum, drop me a line via http://www.quirm.net/punbb/profile.php?id=3 and I’ll see what I can come up with.
