• I just turned on the MU on my wordpress only to read that if it is installed in a directory, rather than the website root it won’t allow the system to work with multiple sites. Is this correct? If it is so, then how can I move my WP installation from /WP to my root?

Not exactly. If WP is installed in directory i.e. http://yoursite.com/wordpress/, you cannot opt for subdomain structure but can only go with subdirectory structure http://yoursite.com/wordpress/subsite1

Having said that, it would be better if your WP is installed in domain root. It would be great if you started from scratch, (after making DB and server backups), drop DB tables, delete .htaccess and wp-config.php files in subdirectory and uploaded WordPress files in domain root then run install script. Then go multisite.

Yeah, if there’s no dataloss, just delete and restart in root 🙂
