moving WP from nested directory to root & something stupid (4 posts)

First of all, my original problem was moving an instance of WP from a nested directory /test
to the root directory. In the process or reading all the background in the Codex, I had a pretty good understanding that I would use the Safe Search and Replace script from InterconnectIT
    http://interconnectit.com/products/search-and-replace-for-wordpress-databases/
    and follow from this doc:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress

I was still a little confused and in the process did something really stupid. Before moving the files, I didn't go into Settings>General and change the WP and site URL. So when I moved it, I couldn't access the admin screen and everything got worse from there. The good thing is the site had no content and was still a work-in-progress. Also, I have all of the WP files backed up locally. (i'm pretty technical, but i was also in a hurry and just didn't think it through...).

I tried moving the WP files back over to the /test directory and that didn't work. Further messing around I tried Safe Search and Replace again back the other way and well. I was thinking maybe I could edit one of the admin screens like options-general.php, but I'll probably break the internet or something...

I'm just a moron but this is how I learn. :P

All is not lost. You can change the site URL a number of different ways even if you can't access the login screen, as described here.

Once you do that, you should be able to at least log in and can begin identifying any other issues, if any.

oh kay! we are back in business. i swear i read that page 27 times, but i re-read it and knew what to do. my question remains:
    Site is currently at http://thecatsquad.com/test/
Would like to move it to http://thecatsquad.com/

    Do I...

    - go through the "When Your Domain Name or URLs Change on this page:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress and use the Search and Replace tool?
    OR
    - follow the sequence here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory

Reason I ask this is b/c not only do I want to have WP be the CMS for my entire site from the root, but I want to nest a blog somewhere off the home page (http://thecatsquad.com/blog/

    Hope that makes sense!

Since you want to move your current installation from /test to the root, I would start with this procedure, then test the site in its new location before you resort to using the Search and Replace tool. You may not need it.
