[resolved] moving wp-content will break WP-Table Reloaded (8 posts)

    Hi Tobias,

I have installed wp-table reloaded version 1.93 in wordpress 3.3.1. After renaming wp-content all plugins works except wp-table reloaded. It also causes tinymce Visual to not work properly. As soon as I uninstall wp-table reloaded everything start working again. It seems somewhere wp-table reloaded has a hard coded link to wp-content directory. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for creating such a nice plugin

    Hi Morrie,

I just checked again and couldn't find any hardcoded references to wp-content.
Can you maybe explain what exactly is not working? Do you get any error messages?

    Regards,
    Tobias

    Hi Tobias,

After your reply I setup a brand new test site to make sure I'm able to duplicate the issue. Below is the URL to that site which shows a table and couple of images of the problem. This is a plain wp setup hosted by ipage.com. Then I installed wp-tabel reloaded. Tested everything to make sure works, then followed the procedures to change the wp-content name. If I follow the same procedures and wp-tabel reloaded is not installed everything works fine after the move of wp-content.

    Hi Morrie,

so, the actual problem is that the sort function is gone? Everything else (like adding/editing tables) is working?

The reason for the JavaScript not working is a problem with the paths, from which WP-Table Reloaded tries to load a language file.
    It tries to load

    http://yourvault.com/content1/plugins/hermes/bosweb/web157/b1579/ipg.homeoflyricscom/yourvault/content1/plugins/wp-table-reloaded/languages/datatables/lang-en_US.txt

but this file does not exist. The reason probably is that you somewhere misconfigured the WordPress URLs during the moving process of wp-content.
Very likely, this is also the reason for TinyMCE not working.

Now, just out of curiosity: Why to do you actually want to move wp-content? I don't see any advantages...

    Regards,
    Tobias

    Hi Tobias,

This is interesting. Most likely you are right and I need to reconfigure the path. But what I'm not sure of is why it works when wp-tabel reloaded is not installed. Does TinyMCE uses java as well or it uses Java only when a plugin asks for it like "wp-table reloaded"? How does the "wp-tabel reloaded" determine the path to java, plugins, wp-content, site URL? Is it from wp-config or wp-setting?

There is little benefit of moving the wp-content (at least in my mind), to hide wp from novice users.

    Hi,

WP-Table Reloaded tries to add a button to TinyMCE. It's likely that this breaks when that path is wrong. When WP-Table Reloaded is deactivated, this does not happen, because the button is not added.

The path is determined with the WordPress API functions for this, especially plugins_url().

Well, why do you want to hide WP from novice users? Is it really that secret that you are using it? And actually, there are much easier ways to find out that you are using WP than checking if "wp-content" exist...

    Regards,
    Tobias

    Hi,

you are right, maybe I should leave the wp-content the way it is.

thanks for your help and a wonderful plugin.

    Hi Morrie,

sure, no problem. You are very welcome!

If someone else has an idea, why this happened, please let us know.

    Best wishes,
    Tobias
