Moving WordPress.com blog to new blog server (7 posts)

I've been posting my blog entries using WordPress.com's free templates and I just bought my own hosting server from GoDaddy with the WordPress application installed and ready to go.

However, I don't know what to do from here. What happens with my old entries and how do I start blogging with my old template and uploading to my new server? (I've tried to read through the instructional pages but am just completely lost).

Is there anyone nice enough to walk me through step-by-step?

    Thanks in advanced!

    its an export/import

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Importing_Content#WordPress

tells you how to import the file you get from wordpress.com..... I'm not totally familiar with .com screens, but you should be able to find your export there somewhere

that'll get all your posts, comments, etc

Thank you to both of you.

But the problem is, when I click on my admin URL, it takes me back to my wordpress.com dashboard. where do i even upload the XML file that i just exported from my wordpress.com blog to my new server? and how do i start a new blog post? if i'm using my own hosting server, there isn't a site that i can go to like wordpress.com where i just click and start writing...

  5. Did you direct your domain name to your wp.com blog?

If you registered a domain through WordPress.com, and wish to transfer that, as well, please review this document. Note that you can only transfer a domain after 60 days from its initial registration. If it has not yet been 60 days, you can still update your nameservers and point them to your new host.

    So yeah, go here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/domain-management/#transfer-to-another-registrar
