Moving WordPress Site from one host to another (6 posts)

I built this WordPress site at http://www.fowlertown.com/ies/

It runs fine. Now, it's time to move it to a new host. So I physically copied the entire /ies/ directory to my local machine and pushed it to the new server. I set up a database with my host and updated my wp-config.php file. Now, when I type in the URL for the new server, it wants me to install afresh.

What do I need to do to preserve my custom WordPress site and get it setup on the new server?

    Thanks in advance.

    First ,please read here :http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL#Moving_Sites
    and here :
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory

but - if wordpress asks you to install fresh - something is wrong with your wp-config OR your database .
Have you created the database with the same name and permissions on your DB server ??

The database does not have the same name, no, because the prefix was already different on the new server. I'll try to feel my way through this stuff... I'm a server/DB n00b.

well... if you copied the same wp-config, the DB should have the same name . otherwise, you need to either change the wp_prefix in wp-config, or install a new DB and proceed with SQL statements as in the codex..
