Moving WordPress from Sub directory to Parent (8 posts)

    Hello people!

I've been working on a site where I've decided I want to re-do the entire site into a WordPress theme. I've created a sub-directory on the server in which I will be modifying the theme and uploading content in the "background" while the original site still runs.

I want as little disruption in this revamp process as possible. So the main site must continue running up until the point where I will be ready to move the completed WordPress version from its "testing" sub-directory into the parent directory.

Please assist me with any obstacles that I may come accross. I will update this thread as I go along.

My first step will be installing WordPress in the sub directory.

Ok, while i'm waiting for installation, I've been having a look at this theme: http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/pyrmont-v2

Now I would like to know whether it would be possible to insert my own head banner image where it says WORDPRESS PYRMONT V2 THEME?

It's installed and working. Will be looking for a suitable theme now. Can anyone perhaps suggest a nice flexible theme which you can change background colours, head banners etc?

Got a good theme. Modifying it. Now I need to know from you professionals, am i going to have major problems moving all this from a sub directory into the parent or not?

Okay, I'm not a professional at all when it comes to WordPress, but I've been messing with it a bit.

What do you mean when you talk about moving it to the parent? You know that you could just change the URL where the frontpage of WordPress lives, right?

    Check out these two docs:
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory
    http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress

On that second one, check out the section titled "Moving WordPress On Your Site". Pretty sure that should tell you what you need to know.

    Good luck!
