    Hello guys,

I just finished setup a new blog and moved it from my hosting to customer's, also changing URL from http://tilinga.com/naini to http://freeworkshopsnyc.com. I used the official guide http://codex.wordpress.org/Moving_WordPress, but there are still some errors loading pages:

    1. Page can load if Permanent link saved as Default, but if I change it to Postname - page shows 404 error
    2. When I am trying to upload file it says:
“test.png” has failed to upload due to an error
The uploaded file could not be moved to D:\hosting\6006989\html\freeworkshopsnyc/wp-content/uploads
    3. If I'm trying to update plugin it says:
To perform the requested action, WordPress needs to access your web server. Please enter your FTP credentials to proceed.

+ I did change WordPress address (URI) and Site address (URL)
    + Updated .htaccess file
+ Made changes in wp_posts table

    What else I missed?
    Thank you in advance!

I would reinstall wordpress on New server from scratch. Seems some steps and permissions might of been missed but hard to say which ones. Not possible to use a 1 click install on the server to avoid problems?

    re: WP Bum

Reinstall from scratch - do u meen to instal the new WordPress? But if there are lots of new settings, and content...

  4. It sounds like you're having some permission issues. I would ask your hosting provider if they can help you with that.

Aslo with the permalink issue, do ask them if they have mod-rewrite et up. I'm assuming that you moved over to an Apache of Linux server? Windows can sometimes be really annoying with permalinks.

You could re-install WordPress if you wanted and just run the export from your old site and then import to your new one, but then you will have to reset all of the settings such as widget, menus, etc...

    Hello Christine,

I moved it from Lunix to Windows (GoDaddy). Support says that they are unable to support third party application, so didn't actually helped me.

I am not sure about this steps from official guide, could u please explain it in more details:
    10. Existing image/media links uploaded media will refer to the old folder and must be updated with the new location. You can do this with the Velvet Blues Update URLs plugin, or with a search and replace tool, or manually in your SQL database, by following the instructions at Tamba2's Tutorial "Moving your weblog inside your PC".
    12. In some cases your permissions may have changed, depending on your ISP. Watch for any files with "0000" permissions and change them back to "0644".
    14. Sometimes you would need to restart your server, otherwise your server may give out an error. (happens in MAMP software (Mac)).

    Thank you in advance!

  6. Was moving to Windows hosting deliberate? I've never been happy with any sites hosted on Windows and always had an IT person handle that part for me.

I think that getting pretty permalinks won't be possible specially with GoDaddy providing "amazing" customer support as per usual.

If you've moved your database and need to change media links, the easiest way is to open your sql file and just do a find and replace of the old links with the new media links. I've never used a plugin for that.

With file permissions, I usually just do that via FTP. Refer to the codex page I mentioned earlier.

While I am trying to save new permissions to any file via Filezilla the system response is: 500 'SITE CHMOD 644 .htaccess': command not understood

I got it, it's because of Windows, I should do it from FTP FIle Manager with folders, not files

I set permissions to directory not to file using FTP File manager not FileZilla (on Windows hosting), so now I can upload pictures, update plugins and so on. Thanks to all for your help!
