    Hi,

I have plan to make a copy of my blog into my computer ( i use Mac Pro G5), so i can use it as my development server before i change anything in the real site.

i followed the instructions of backup from http://codex.wordpress.org/Backing_Up_Your_Database, instructions of moving to a new domain name and restore from http://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/move/

but no luck so far. i can't log in to the wp-admin.

so i'm not sure if i did the right steps:
    1. backup the database of the real site
    2. on the .sql file, change the url to my localhost
    3. installing the fresh copy of wordpress on my localhost (same version)
    4. drop the database of the fresh installation
    5. restore the database of the real site

i can't login either with the real site's password or with the password from the fresh install on localhost.

    did i miss something here?

thanks a lot for your help

via phpMyAdmin, reset your admin password on your localhost.

    See this:

    http://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/site-url/

    or this:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_The_Site_URL

or if you want it even simpler and youre using 2.3.2

    just do this:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Editing_wp-config.php#Advanced_Options

Note that #3 is by far the easiest solution, as long as you are proficient at editing text files.
