   Is there a way of exporting widgets from one theme to another theme?

   Or if not changing the layout css into a theme with the widgets that I need?

   i have read about parent and child themes where people have spoke about one theme taking on the functionality of another but im not sure if this means widgets or just the customised post types..

   One theme i have used to create a really nice menu and slideshow menu underneath. The other theme has some customised review star widgets that come with it that i need for the site to function. i have asked both creators of the site and they guided me to this forum. If this is not the right place, please direct me but any help is much appreciated.

   PS Is it as simple as moving the .php files for the plugins into the directory of the other theme??

   No - widgets are theme specific. Even when it's a child theme.
