• Have a new site at http://knitwitshop.co.uk/wordpress and I want to change it so it is accessible as http://knitwitshop.co.uk

I have dome this exercise previously for other sites and followed the Codex – Giving WordPress Its Own Directory but it does not seem to have worked.

I have been going backwards and forwards with the index.php and .htaccess files now for about 24 hours so and seem to have tried about every combination + got myself completely confused as to what the original state would be.

Can anyone assist in getting my set up right and/or should I just reinstall WordPress and start again?

    Thanks
    Mark

  • If you have only a limited amount of time invested in your site, then deleting everything and trying again is a very good idea. Maybe the carpenter’s rule “Measure twice, cut once”, should become “Type once, read twice”.
Maybe make notes of theme choices, menu settings, even save the odd post/page you prepared, re-developing a website you only recently created is easily much faster than tinkering with various settings etc.
