Moving from WordPress.com to WordPress.org AND search engine results? (5 posts)

    Hello,

If you move a blog from WordPress.com to WordPress.org self hosted, are you going to lose all of the SEO (I think that is the term I want to use here) that wordpress.com provides?

Not sure how to ask the question really....but when I was with WordPress.com and I did a search on a topic that I blogged about, I would usually be on the first or second page. But since I have moved to WordPress.org and do the same exact query, I am nowhere to be found. Remember, this is the same exact blog.

It seems like WordPress.com had something special going on that allowed for good search result queries; all this time I thought it was the WordPress platform itself.

Maybe I am missing something that you can tell me?

SEO is not related much to the service you are on, but by more important things. If you are concerned and seriously monitoring your SEO page rank and such, you will notice a dip but it might go back up soon. There is nothing special for either. WordPress is more user friendly to search engines, but it has no sway with your page ranking. That is up to your content and how you link and are linked to, along with the rest of the secret sauce search engines and directories put into their algorithm.

Make the choice for other reasons beyond SEO. And worry about that instead. :D

    Lorelle,

Thanks for the reply. I am not so much concerned about my ranking, per se. I don't make any money off of my blog, nor do I have any plans to. But I just found it weird that my page rank dropped of even though I have the same exact blog with the exact same domain name. The only thing that changed was that I moved from WordPress.com to WordPress.org self hosted.

I like to get to the bottom of things :-)

Did you figure this out? I'm new to blogging with it hosted on my site, and noticing the same thing - no search results at all in the WordPress.com search engine.
